"Yukon Balladeers" Daniel Halen and "Chic" Callas unite their talents in the instrumental/vocal duo known as the DanChic Duo. They capture and preserve the spirit, generosity, and uniqueness of the vibrant communities inhabiting the remote landscapes of Canada’s Yukon, embodying the essence of northern life, history, and culture in their songs.

The duo draws from a rich tapestry of influences, including First Nations, Celtic, Scandinavian, and Anglo-Saxon traditions, crafting narratives that reflect the distinct experiences and values of northern societies. Their music features an array of acoustic instruments, such as fiddle, accordion, guitar, piano, cello, percussion, and mouth harp, while their lyrics often weave through tales of love, adventure, hardship, and the beauty of nature.

The DanChic Duo not only celebrates the spirit of their heritage, but also keeps the art of storytelling vibrant and alive for future generations.

PRESS

Daniel Halen is a singer/songwriter hailing from Canada’s Yukon Territory who combines his formal classical guitar skills and love of traditional folk music into his songs. His music boasts mellifluous rhythmic textures and lyrical double-entendres while boldly stepping over the boundaries of traditional folk music. he interlaces alternative tunings with smooth poly rhythmic phrasing with a fluidity and adeptness of a refined classical guitarist, all the while weaving great stories and good sense of humour into the mix.

Chic Callas, the “Swiss Army Knife of musical instruments” (violin, piano, cello, mandolin, harmonica, bodhran,) also comes from a background of classical and folk music. Chic has played with spruce on top, the Whitehorse String Ensemble, The Gumboots, Celtic Tyde, the Whitehorse Chamber Choir and musical theatre groups Stuck in a Snow-Bank Theatre and several Guild Hall productions as an instrumentalist and musical director.
